Mystical Danube

Mystical Danube – Sustainable Cultural Tourism in the Danube Region:
Mystical Danube is a transnational cooperation project under the Interreg Danube Region Programme that aims to enhance sustainable cultural tourism by valorising lesser-known intangible cultural heritage, legends, traditions, and spiritual narratives connected to the Danube Region. The project supports destinations in transforming “mystical” cultural assets into authentic, experience-based tourism products while safeguarding local identity and cultural integrity. Through joint product development, storytelling methodologies, pilot actions, and capacity-building activities, Mystical Danube fosters cooperation between tourism authorities, cultural institutions, creative sectors, and local communities. By diversifying tourism offers and strengthening cross-border thematic routes, the project contributes to balanced territorial development, increased destination attractiveness, and sustainable tourism growth across the Danube Region.

Mystical Danube supports sustainable cultural tourism by valuing shared heritage and local narratives, enabling social innovation and social entrepreneurship through community-based tourism models.
